Yes, we are running out of room, so the museum will be using the
street level of our building as well as half of the second floor.
The other half of the second floor will be occupied by the
Upper Valley Historical Society who will showcase the change in the
town of Leavenworth as it moved from a dying railroad town to a
picturesque Bavarian Village.
The remodel will begin September first and when finished the street
level will feature a small gift shop at the entrance, a viewing room
for presentation of the introductory museum video, and many new
cases to display museum nutcrackers. A thirty foot enclosed wall
display will show nutcrackers representing the many holidays as well
as Leavenworth festivals and activities.
Featured items will be displayed in several glass cases with
informative labels.
There will be a special children’s section and of course our popular
nutcracker hunts will continue.
A new staircase will connect
the two levels of the nutcracker museum.
We have carefully planned so that something of every category
will be on the street level.
Handicapped people unable to climb stairs will not be missing
any type of nutcracker.
Beginning next month we will be moving cases around to allow for
stairway construction, but will keep the museum open as much as
possible during the building process.
What a job it will be when the first level is ready and we
have to move many of the cases and their contents down to their new
location!
Amanda Gibbs who sculpted the marvelous 8-foot rendition of a 16th
century nutcracker at the museum entrance has redesigned the
building entrance and you will find this interesting.
The thoughts of moving 32 cases of nutcrackers downstairs has the
staff in panic mode!!!!
We have charts knowing where they go, but getting them there will be
a major feat. And we
will happily accept any and all help!!!
Let us know if you would like to have a hands-on experience
with these toothy lovable figures and assist with the move. Just
send us an email if you are interested—We expect it to be moving the
nutcracker displays in mid
October-Early November.
